In Person Private Consultations
These 40-minute long private consultations with Jonathan Graves are available for families or educational/therapeutic teams to review child-specific recommendations, programming, or other CVI strategies unique to each individual. We encourage Families, Teachers, and/or Providers to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to consult with a national level expert on the impact of CVI to the child they serve. These sessions are informational in nature and not considered a evaluation or formal assessment & offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Pediatric VIEW Practitioner
Jonathan Graves, M.Ed., CTVI, CATIS
Jonathan is a Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired, and a Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist. He has worked in general and special education classrooms across the United States, and U.S. Territories, and specializes in providing visual access for children with cortical visual impairment. In 2017, he established a vision intervention program for children with CVI in Dubai, UAE, providing assessment and training to families, teachers, and therapists in the region.
At Pediatric VIEW, Jonathan works to support educational teams to learn more about effective approaches to educating students with CVI, including developing CVI-friendly environments and activities, and modifying instructional strategies. He also administers The CVI Range with students, provides trainings on CVI, and works to develop new approaches to support students’ instructional needs through assistive technology.
Jonathan has presented at conferences internationally, and developed trainings on CVI across a broad range of topics. He holds a Masters of Education in Vision Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He currently serves as a board member and Secretary of the Pediatric Cortical Visual Impairment Society, and holds the Perkins-Roman CVI Range Endorsement.

Learning Objectives:
Understand the barriers faced by individuals with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) in various settings such as the community, classroom, and home.
Identify appropriate accommodations for CVI that consider how individuals use their vision, the impact of their environment, and necessary adjustments to materials and instructional methods.
Recognize the additional challenges faced by individuals with CVI who have complex communication needs and the broad landscape of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) options available.
Incorporate an understanding of CVI characteristics into activities and the visual design of AAC to enhance communication and independence.
Explore approaches to achieving greater independence through assistive technology and AAC design that support meaningful visual access for individuals with CVI.
Discuss factors contributing to independent participation in activities and provide real-world recommendations for use in the community, classroom, and home.
